(I don't really consider Scrivener a stand-alone screenplay formatter, but some folks love its research capabilities and use it conjunction with other software for screenplay formatting.)Īnd while all this was happening, the Fountain syntax ("format") happened and, then, dedicated screenplay software wasn't absolutely necessary. ![]() And even two non-expiring, beta versions of Scrivener became available for download. Then came Trelby (still very capable even though it's "long in the tooth"), and then Fade In Pro (commercial, but better than Final Draft, in my opinion) and then KIT Scenarist (another cross-platform, very good application, free unless you want to collaborate). You had Celtx Online (and, for a short while, there was an offline version for Ubuntu only) and macros in OpenOffice (and later, LibreOffice). ![]() A few years ago the choices for writing screenplays in Linux were pretty sparse.
